Well, these times, they are a-changin’ aren’t they? We’re not saying that it’s a bad thing, but have you noticed a few differences in the invitations that are most popular these days?  Bridal Shower invitations may have changed a bit and certainly gift registries.

Bridal Showers have an interesting history.  According to Wikipedia, bridal showers are said to have come from the old practice of dowry giving.  These practices trace back to as early as the 16th or 17th Century! If a woman was too poor to provide a dowry, friends would bring gifts and come together to compensate for the lack of wealth.  Dowries are still rooted in the United States in some form or another.  The bride’s family is usually the family to pay for the wedding and to make up for this expense, friends of the bride gather together to give gifts to supply the new bride and groom items to begin a new life together.

In this day and age, many times a man and a woman live together before they get married.  This means that they have already set up a home together and probably are not in need of ALL the items usually given at showers.  Friends of the bride or the mother of the bride will know what the bride needs in her home and will make sure to plan accordingly.  Creative bridal showers like the “Around the…” bridal showers allow for guest to get creative as well.

So what changes have you noticed in popular bridal shower invitations? Stock the Bar, Lingerie Showers and Around the Clock showers are all good choices for couples that are already living together.  Stock the Kitchen, Around the House showers and Honey-Do Showers are good for couples that are going to need more to set up an entirely new home.
